The 1991 Le Mans winner returns ten years later to drive the Champion Audi, with Didier Theys and Ralf Kelleners. Dorsey Schroeder - who drove at Texas and Sebring - is now missing from the line-up in France.
The official view is that someone with Le Mans experience was needed in the car. "We wanted to add more Le Mans experience to our driver lineup," said Dave Maraj, at an Audi function in New York yesterday.
Herbert's 1991 win was in the gorgeous red and green Renown / Charge Mazda, when the Jochen Mass Mercedes failed at lunchtime on Sunday. He could end up chasing silver cars again this time - or he might end up racing them all the way (with Didier Theys and Ralf Kelleners). |
