A Car Is Born |

A couple of hours before the start of the Snetterton Privilege GT round, a very busy Colin Blower took a few minutes of his time to talk about his new car and the challenges ahead. To say that the team are starting out on a steep learning curve would probably be understating the case rather severely. The car was not given the go-ahead to enter the series by the BRDC until last November, and so the team have had only three months to build the car from scratch – not enough time to debug the car before the season commenced.
As a result, Snetterton was very much a ‘hot’ test session for this team, with objective one being to finish the race. It may be starting from the back (actually last but one due to the McKellar Marcos being relegated to 22nd place), but at least it is in the race.
So what are the main issues to be tackled? “There are a million things to sort! This is basically the first run for the car and the engine hasn’t even been mapped yet – we’re running it rich to preserve it, but it strips the HPs. We’re finding that even things like fitting wing-mirrors (apparently quite useful whilst in a pack of GT cars) are taking hours to sort out!” Clearly the team have a busy year ahead, the more so as the main GT competition have had years to develop their cars. The car’s potential? “Race winner!”
Colin will not be driving at all rounds due to ASCAR commitments, but a sub has yet to be sorted to partner Edd Sharpe at those rounds. It will be fascinating to follow the progress of this project over this year and the next. As a previous Privilege winner, Colin is clearly a man to be taken seriously.
And they did get a finish - 16th place.
