The Thetford / Norcold Dyson R&S was fastest in two of the three sessions at Phoenix yesterday - but perhaps the most significant time was the Doran Lista Crawford's 54.477 in the second free session. This was well under a second outside the best Weaver / Leitzinger time - 53.790.
Intersport Racing were second with a 54.121 lap and Robinson Racing fourth with a 54.937 lap (new rear deck arrangement visible, above).
“We’re getting there,” said Kevin Doran. “Our second practice session today shows that we are getting to where we are competitive enough to win races. It’s taken much work from Max [Crawford], Andy [Scriven], Fredy, Didier and the crew, but we are close. We haven’t stopped, though. This is a time-consuming and arduous process. We still have our work cut out for us.”
Archangel Motorsport Services led the SRPll class with a 56.812-second lap, nearly four seconds faster than the current record set by Martin Snow last year. A fine race is in prospect between Archangel and Porschehaus racing.
The Fordahl Motorsports Saleen S7R of Chris Bingham and Ron Johnson led the GTS class with a 59.729 lap, with the Schumacher Motorsports Porsche 911 GT1 second fastest at 60.247.
G&W Motorsports were fastest in GT, but they're facing (new daddy) Terry Borcheller in the JET BMW and the Fordahl Motorsports / Crazy Redhead Porsche of Randy Pobst and Kim Hiskey. Borcheller missed the afternoon free practice sessions to be at the birth of his first son, but recorded the fastest GT lap in the night session at 61.571.
The #09 Flis Motorsports / Team X-1R Corvette leads the AGTs with a 61.429 lap, followed by the Hamilton Safe Motorsports Camaro with a 62.842 time.
There's one free session today (11.45), folowed by Qualifying at 15.25. The Sun Automotive 200 will be start at 19.00 on Saturday.
