A Saleen For The Privilege? |
It’s Generating Huge Interest Already |
|
Amid speculation that a Saleen S7R is about to be confirmed for the Privilege Championship, John Hindhaugh at RML Ltd. explains that, “we have had many enquiries and visits to see the cars being built here at RML. The UK GT scene is in its strongest position for many years and the advent of longer races in the ELMS is an exciting development in sportscar racing here in Europe which adds another option for sponsors.”
“We understand that many drivers and teams are still finalising the funding
for Championships in 2001 and we hope to be able to release full details of
where the cars will be competing and with whom in the near future,” continues Hindhaugh.
The Saleen is clearly attracting an understandably high level of interest. A Saleen or two taking on a Lister is a fascinating prospect, and a sure sign that the Privilege Championship is now reaching new heights in terms of the quality of machinery (and investment) needed to win. There has to be a slight concern though, that the expenditure needed is starting to run away a little. The Saleen will be entered by the factory at Le Mans and in the ALMS, the French classic regarded as a “priority” at RML. As John Hindhaugh points out, the 24 Hours “looks in fine shape” with Bentley announcing their intention to race. The Saleen will have some quality entries to compete against in GTS (Vipers, Corvettes), but could one of them potentially run away in the UK? Laurence Pearce thinks not, but the equalisation rules might have a serious role to play in 2001. |
