Jason Plato headed the times in this week's official TOCA Test at Thruxton, with Yvan Muller second, James Thompson third and Phil Bennett fourth.
Steve Soper and Dan Eaves were fifth and sixth for Peugeot, with Dave Pinkney in the JSM Alfa just pipped by the best of the Production Class, Roger Moen in the HTML Peugeot 306.
”We had a very good day today," explained Jason Plato. "We made some changes to the car, some of which were very positive ones. We accomplished about 80 per cent of the programme today and had some good results.”
Roland Dane, Managing Director of Triple Eight Engineering, added: “Everything went pretty smoothly today, the guys are quick enough and we now have to make sure our reliability is what it should be.”
Steve Soper started the day in his own Peugeot 406 before having to switch to a third chassis after crashing his car at Church as a result of a puncture.
Team-mate Dan Eaves suffered a broken drive shaft. He set the sixth fastest time.
Mick Linford, Peugeot’s Motorsport Director: “We certainly learnt a lot more about the car today and we found some more straight line speed. We accomplished some good work and the team is confident that we are moving closer to the Vauxhalls.”
The JSM Alfa 147 ran in its first formal test session and completed a total of 29 laps. John Shields, Managing Director of JSMotorsports: “We are very pleased with today’s running. Obviously we now know the points that we have to improve upon. Today was good as it gave Dave (Pinkney) the chance to get acclimatised to the car. At the moment everything seems to be very good and we just need time to develop the car and then I think we can be very quick.”
Roger Moen set a 1:22.130 for fastest time of the day in the P class. "The circuit seems to suit our cars as we have a good engine," said Jonathan Heynes, the Team Principal.
