Franco Tedeschi explains that the Conrero team was listed on the Monza entry with two cars, but they eventually took only one car, for Caffi / Lancelotti / Chiesa. As Chiesa explained to Snr. Tedeschi, the car is an interesting evolution. The rear is longer and completed by the diffuser (the rear is similar to the Rafanelli R&S). At the front, Conrero and the R&M team have done some modifications to the crash-box that is now necessary for both the FIA and ACO technical rules. The front aerodynamics are also different (in some ways similar to the Osella PA-20S, which ran in the first two years of the SRWC). The modifications, which increase the front downforce, were necessary to balance the car, which now has a higher rear downforce thanks to the diffuser. Chiesa also explained that the 6.0l Ford Roush unit has about the same maximum power as the Judd V10, but with better torque. On the minus side, the Judd is more compact, lighter and easier to fit into the chassis.
Unfortunately, the car didn't set a Qualifying time or start the race. |
