Martin Short may be hoping for damp conditions for the remaining races before the Tuscan R is completed.
Although he was helped at Snetterton with a brand new engine - described as the best they'd had - Rob Barff's sensational drive through the field was helped by the Rollcentre team's first proper wet set-up. Data was obtained from a test at the Stowe circuit at Silverstone which led to the settings used for the race. It seemed to work - Short described the handling as "bloody incredible" and Barff confirmed that "the combination of the TVR chassis and the Dunlop tyres felt fantastic through the faster corners and I was able to just drive around the outside of people at the quicker stuff. Although the TVR was not as fast in a straight line as the Porsches, I just braked later and cruised past them around the outside into the Esses and Russell". Even TVR Chairman Peter Wheeler commented "it's the best handling car through the Esses".
Whilst Short may hope for rain, what he wishes for is parts - to allow the team to complete the 'self-build' Tuscan R they have in their possession. Short expects at least a second and a half advantage on most circuits for the new car - and that's before the car is fully developed.
The strains on the team are remarkably well hidden - the effort needed to maintain the Cerbera effort and build the new car is taking its toll however. Martin Short: "We are considering missing Donington to put maximum effort into the new car. We certainly do not want that to happen, but unless the parts situation improves, it is looking a strong possibility".
