Franco Tedeschi reports that May 6 is going to see the start a new and interesting Italian GT Championship called “SUPERCARS SERIES”.
It is expected that a field of 30-35 cars will be composed of up to 15 STC cars and up to 27 GTs.
Among the STC cars there will be:
3 Audi A4 Quattro
1 Alfa Romeo 156
1 Alfa Romeo 155
3 BMW 320i
1 Honda Accord
6 Opel Vectra
The GT field will be:
1 Porsche 911 GT2
1 Chevrolet Corvette
1 Porsche 911 3.3 Turbo
2 TVR Tuscan
1 Callaway (for Gianni Giudici)
2 Porsche 911 GT3R
3 Porsche 911 3.8 RSR
3 Ferrari 355
4 Lotus Exige
3 Mazda RX-7
1 Nissan 300 ZX
1 Nissan Skyline GT
1 Porsche 911 3.8 SuperCup
1 Porsche 911 3.6 RS
1 Porsche 928
1 Porsche 911 3.0 Carrera
other Porsches and Ferraris
Franco explains that in Italy 'it is really difficult to have some space in the press, because Italian journalists know only of the %$^& Formula 1 World Championship, so the promoters of other championships must have a lot of determination to try to organize anything different'.
Franco hopes to reward the promoters of this championship with some internet coverage, 'for their strong will in creating such a strong grid, despite the difficulties of obtaining press coverage and therefore sponsorship.'
Now that's a (delicate) subject that has implications for all forms of motorsport outside F1.
