How many drivers in the 2001 Privilege Insurance British GT Championship have had a Number One hit single? Look beyond the obvious answer of Eclipse Motorsport’s Shane Lynch and you’ll find another.
Pole position man Rob Wilson has topped more than just the timing charts. He played bass guitar for Edison Lighthouse on their 1973 worldwide smash hit Love Goes Where My Rosemary Grows.
And how about a Beatles link with the Privilege Championship. The #69 Eclipse Motorsport Marcos Mantis GTO appeared in a new livery at Donington Park (for this race only) with a unique sponsor.
Team manager Chris Pollard explains: “I used to edit a record magazine in my previous life and I’m still invited to the odd party,” (scurrilous paddock gossip suggests that “the odd party” is a serious understatement!).
"I was recently invited to an album launch for Aurora, a well known, Mansfield based choir, who are produced by the ‘fifth Beatle’ Sir George Martin. Eclipse are based close to Mansfield and with this weekend’s race taking place at Donington, a good local media opportunity presented itself.
“We plan only to carry the new livery for this round but the choir (who performed on the Powertour stage today) were so well received, who knows?”
The sponsors were watching as the car’s race was cut short after a first lap clash. The groans of disappointment were, however, reported to be completely in tune!
