Touring Cars, ISC, Privilege, FIA GTs and Sportscars this weekend, a whole host of events next weekend......it's getting mindlessly busy in the frantic, ever-changing world of motorsport reporting.
So a first chance to look back to the Test Weekend, plus other Le Mans news.
A delicate one first of all; Autosport and the freshly renamed Motorsport News are both indicating that James Weaver may not be in a Bentley at the race. James is allegedly unhappy about the lack of tyre pressure sensors on the EXP Speed 8, and may have pulled out of the race. All credit to him for having the strength of mind to take this decision, if the foregoing is accurate.
Perry McCarthy was present at the Test Day, but did not drive. Butch Leitzinger was getting married, and you have to conclude that it was an unusual choice of date from the Bentley-contracted American.
Looking ahead to after the race, suggestions from France indicate that Yves Courage is 'thinking about an LMP675 project', possible for a US based concern. Work on this effort could commence just after this year's race.
Didier Bonnet, the French Debora builder, was in Le Mans last week. An AutoHebdo story suggests that the Debora Mader wasn't selected for this year after Didier Bonnet wasn't able to show his new car to the ACO in time. He has ELMS plans for July onwards.
Five teams (Audi, Bentley, Pescarolo Sport, DAMS & Chrysler) are expected to be present at Magny-Cours for an endurance test from May 14 to 16. Pescarolo Sport will be devoting a lot of attention to their 2001 engines, the definitive version.
A test was scheduled last night for SMG & MG, again at Magny-Cours, continuing into today for MG.
David Legangneux was hardly giving away top secrets when he revealed the Audi chassis numbers at the end of last week. " '502 transporter' was written on each of the tyres of the Champion car."
