The Marcos Mantis GTO cars will be allowed to run larger restrictors (34.5mm) at the next Privilege Insurance British GT meeting - Croft on 26 & 27 May. The race organisers have decided the move is necessary to create some parity between the Mantis and the existing field of Porsche 911GT3Rs and RSs, the Curtis Hayles Viper and the rapidly improving Tuscan R (due to be joined by the Rollcentre car at Croft). John Griffiths, team boss at Eclipse Motorpsport has so far proved he has the most potent Mantis (the #69 car) and if their luck improves, this car could be challenging for GTO podium positions.
The news will also act as a further incentive for the teams who are currently upgrading their Mantis cars to GTO specification, such as Promotasport - which primarily involves the replacement of the 4.6 V8 engine with a 5 litre unit.
