David Legangneux and Marc Laffeas have been following the testing news at Magny-Cours, thanks to L'Equipe & Ouest-France.
Chrysler's 24 hours test this week was stopped for the first time after two and a half hours with a gearbox problem. The car was apparently running with some well used components, and the gearbox was repaired (to find the cause) rather than replaced. The test continued with the same gearbox, to find out what failed next, if anything.
The car then ran reliably from midnight until 06.00, when a driveshaft broke, then the other. The gearbox had already covered 5000 km and the driveshafts 7000 km.
Dalmas, Sarrazin, Lamy, Wendlinger, Beretta & Amorim have driven the car during this week's test, while another Chrysler was working on chassis set-ups.
Bentley were testing in more like a real race situation. No problems were reported by half way through the 24 hours. Brundle, Smith, Ortelli, Wallace, Leitzinger and then van de Poele have been completing double stints, on the same set of tyres, to simulate saving time at pit stops next month.
Henri Pescarolo was very happy by Tuesday evening, after 950 km without any problems during the day. The goal of Magny-Cours testing for his team is to complete 1'000 km per day to test the 2001 evolution of the Peugeot engine, that couldn't be used at the Test Day. The oil pump that failed at Monza has been modified. Grouillard, Clérico & Cottaz, then Bourdais, Clérico & Redon were all scheduled to drive.
Meanwhile, Audi are at Jarama..... |
