Talking about confirmation of his drive in the #78 Audi at the PLM, Tom Kristensen remarked that "It will be great fun to drive with Emanuele Pirro and Frank Biela again, as we are yet not defeated in 2000!" That's a reference to victories at Sebring and Le Mans of course.
"Petit Le Mans is one of the classic races of modern time, and I am looking forward to trying the dazzling track north of Atlanta," says the Dane. "Actually I should have taken part in the event two years ago with BMW- Rafanelli, but due to some technical problems the cars were withdrawn a week before the race."
Audi are testing at Vallelunga this week, before heading off to Atlanta on Friday. "Now I get the opportunity to find the right rhythm again so we can be strong at Atlanta."
He seemed to have a good rhythm in his BTCC Honda Accord at Silverstone's BTCC finale. He won both races, but not without difficulties. This was night racing, and Tom seemed to be going blind.
"Suddenly I thought the track was so dark, and I wondered if the black season had put a spell on my sight, but then my team called me on the radio and asked me to put on the main light! I told my engineers I already had done so, but they didn't believe me! It was quite strange, here I was in the middle of the Silverstone night leading the final race - and still I had to argue that I wasn't stubborn and simply had forgot to put on the lights! Luckily my Accord had other lamps so I was able to focus on the track after all, mainly because I was in the lead and didn't have to think too much of the position of other cars. It was the best way to end not just the season but the whole era of Super Touring Cars in Britain. Next year the rules will change dramatically in order to lower the budgets in the championship, so I couldn't make a better choice to produce a double win," says the Dane who still doesn't know what 2001 will bring. |
