After Mike Youles followed more or less in Terry Rymer's wake during the first stint ("It was running lean so when I finally pitted the fuel light still hadn't come on"), Robin Liddell was looking like a secure fourth in class in #60 - until a late spin then an unrelated driveshaft failure. He dropped a place in the provisional results, but that became 17th overall in the final list, because you have to cross the line to be regarded as a finisher under ACO rules.
Their loss was a gain for Piers Masarati and Mark Humphrey, who took the fourth in GT, behind the two BMWs and the surviving Job Porsche. Now, what was that gesture that Rinaldo Capello directed towards Mike Youles? |
