Mike Jordan explains the rationale behind the proposed GT Association (to Mark Howson):
“Basically, the GT teams feel that we need an independent voice to discuss issues with the BMP, along the same lines as FOTA. We have been talking about it for a while and I offered to get the thing up and running. However, I won’t have the time to head it going forward [something about driving and preparing cars, and looking after sponsors] so the intention is to get all the teams to chip in and employ a representative.
“I’ve already had a meeting this morning with BMP, and am feeling reassured that the organisation are behind GTs and F3 next year, even though the Powertour name will be no more.”
It’s not all focussed on next year, though. “Our biggest gripe this year is the timing of the GT race (last of the day’s events), and we are working towards getting that situation changed.”
Mike also gave his thoughts on the new Rockingham track (next on the Powertour schedule in a fortnights time). “It’s a fantastic circuit. Unfortunately, it is still a bit of a building site, but in eighteen months time it will look superb.”
When asked about his ASCAR race there on Saturday, Mike had a very interesting story to tell, but one which can’t be repeated here. Let’s just say the race didn’t exactly go to plan (for the organisers), and the conspiracy theorists that think roundy-roundy racing is fixed might have a point. Motorsport News will have an interesting quote from Mike on Wednesday if they are brave enough to quote it!
