Amid suggestions that the SR2 class could have its own series in 2002 but with the Lights cars still running in the FIA Sports Car Championship comes confirmation that order books are already filling up. Roy Baker, having dabbled with a Pilbeam, is expected to take delivery of a Tampolli for 2001, while Pilbeam themselves are rumoured to have sold three chassis for next year. With Lola now having sold 15 of their B2K/40 model, there are going to be a lot of Lights chassis running around next year.
Changes to the LMP 675 engine rules still leave some potential entrants in a dilemma though, if they want to run in the FIA SCC and Le Mans. A 3 litre V6 is unlikely to be competitive at Le Mans (although it might still be a good bet for a 24 Hour finish, if it is invited would it be with a 3 litre V6?), where turbos and 3.4 litre V8s are expected to be very close to LMP 900 pace. Its decision time for some, unsure as to whether to go the FIA SCC route or the ELMS / Le Mans or risk both. |
