The ACO must have been keeping a weather eye on the success of Lord March's Goodwood Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival meetings.
The long Le Mans circuit is normally only used for the annual 24 hour sportscar race, but that will change next year when the inaugural 24 Hours of Le Mans retrospective takes place from 20-21 July.
Models which have raced in the 24 Hours from 1923-1975 will be eligible to take part in the new event, with priority being given to the actual cars which have taken part in the race. Since a 24 hour race would be beyond many of the cars, the meeting will be composed of several 40 minute races with the entry split into five grids (two pre-war and three for 1949-75). Each grid will compete in four forty minute races over a twenty four hour period (ie all the cars will race at least once in darkness).
