Welcome Back Roadster S |

Panoz Motor Sports have announced that from the third round of the ALMS (the X-Factor Grand Prix of Sonoma, Sears Point, 22 July), they will be running two LMP-1 Roadster S prototypes, instead of this year's LMP-07.
Don Panoz: "This decision has been made after long and careful consideration and was not one that was reached lightly as I am someone who generally prefers to look forward rather than back. However, it's no secret that the ménage à trois that is our 2001 car - a new chassis, new engine and new gearbox - has been going through a troubled time. The marriage of the three started out well in Texas which, looking back, was definitely the honeymoon period. Since then, the three have started to fight and we now need some time out of the limelight, away from race meetings, to work through those problems and fix them."
No decision has yet been made about how many races the LMP-1 cars will contest, but the design and engineering team in Georgia will be working hard over the coming months to overcome the LMP-07's technical and reliability issues that have hampered the team's progress this season. One factor has always been the lack of a spare car for testing - the race cars have effectively been developed at the races. This revised plan for the next few weeks or months will allow some serious development to be carried out.
Franck Lagorce (above at Le Mans), will be replacing Brazilian Gualter Salles for the remainder of the season. Lagorce will drive with Klaus Graf (who managed to lead at Le Mans thanks to some clever tactics in the early, changing conditions).
