IMH, the organisers of the 2001 Interactive Sportscar Championship, have been regrouping since the opening round at Donington Park.
Their statement of June 18 explains that 'After much discussions with the teams over current funding, various private investors and CSG Holdings Limited, the parent company of CSG Motorsport, will make sizable investments thereby protecting the future of the Championship'.
Carl Roebuck, Managing Director of CSG Motorsport: "We entered motor racing to participate in the ISC as we felt it is the way forward for the sport, an investment in the IMH is a natural step to ensure the future of the Championship."
All the teams 'completely supported the changes and are gearing themselves up for Rockingham at the end of June'.
'New teams due at Rockingham will add to the field making this the biggest real GT Championship ever run on British soil', it says here. This is another example of the ISC organisers making statements that are, frankly, ludicrous. The biggest real GT Championship ever run on British soil? What is a real GT Championship? Presumably events such as the BPR and the FIA GT Championship don't count? Or 38 Privilege entries at Silverstone's GP meeting?
To his credit, Dominic Chappell has instantly responded to correct that statement. "This is currently the biggest pure GT Championship in the country," is the preferred wording.
Anyway, the anticipated line-up for Rockingham on July 1 is as follows:
CSG Motorsport 2X Lister Storm
NCK Motorsport 2X Marcos LM600
Tech 9 Motorsport 2X Porsche
Mike Haines Racing 2X Lotus Esprit
Atomic Kitten Motorsport 2X Corvette
Pro-Tran Competition 1X Venturi
Brookspeed Motorsport 2X Viper
Speedworx Motorsport 2X Stealth
Teledata Racing 2X Nissan Skyline
TBC 2X Ferrari
Moore International Motorsport 1X Nissan Skyline
The ISC organisers never did respond to the views expressed by the Editor of TotalMotorSport on June 8. Their response should have arrived by June 11, but an extra two days were granted in view of discussions going on over the financial backing of the series. Still nothing arrived.
One response that was received here was a threat not to issue press passes to TotalMotorSport journalists. Dominic Chappell also made it clear that news items on the prospects for the ISC that were willingly posted on this site throughout the first five months of the year were of no benefit to the ISC.
We'll sit back and let the Championship evolve, before taking a view on whether to cover events in the future. For now, alas, we won't.
