Report

The Ferraris days aren't over yet - Jean Marc Gounon set the pole time at Brno today in the BMS Scuderia Italia 333SP, with a 1:48.897. "It was a great free lap and I am even more proud than usual because I have a very limited programme this year and it is easy for a driver to get rusty. But the critical thing was the tyres that were not lasting long, so you needed to look after them very well on the quick laps," said Gounon.

The Dome Judds line up next. Hiroki Katoh (above) was given qualifying duties for the first time in John Nielsen's car and set a 1:49.308. Jan Lammers was fractions slower, coping with an understeer condition that developed in Qualifying. "The tyre pressures were very critical throughout the session and that possibly contributed to the understeer, but we are looking forward to another strong showing in the race tomorrow," said the star of Le Mans (Hillebrand, below).

Next up are two more Ferraris, those of GLV Brums (with Judd power) and the second BMS chassis, both just outside the 1:50 mark.

The Kremer, Ascari and R&M entries were all in bothers of varying severity, the first and last recovering from delays this morning, while the Ascari lost sixth gear.

Massimo Monti was fastest in SR2, two tenths quicker than Thed Bjork in the Swedish Lola. The newly-liveried yellow Lola ran out of fuel at a critical moment.

Lucchinis were third and fourth and fifth, the Rowan Pilbeam sixth and the Swara Tampolli ninth.
