Jan Lammers secured his second consecutive pole position in Qualifying at Mondello Park this afternoon. He pipped the #1 BMS Ferrari in the closing minutes, by two tenths (Hillebrand at the wheel, below).

The top four positions were covered by nine tenths, and these four look to be the ones in contention late tomorrow afternoon for the race, Round 7 of the FIA SCC.

"It was a 100% effort lap as I saw P2 on the pit board when Pescatori went quicker right at the end so I really went for it and it proved to be enough," said the Dutchman, who is looking for his first win with the new Dome.

"I am happy," said Christian Pescatori, "because it will be a very hard race tomorrow and we must look after the car. It will be interesting to see what strategies everyone will run in the race."

The Den Bla Avis Dome of John Nielsen finished up third on the grid, a good effort after Katoh went off in the morning with a stuck throttle. Nielsen is seen right with Lammers.

Ben Collins could have been on the front row in the Ascari, but for an inadvertent 'block' by Jan Lammers. "Jan was very good and came straight away to apologise but Ben was definitely up on his previous time and while I don't think we would have beaten the Dome, I'm sure second was on the cards," explained TM Ian Dawson.

Jean-Marc Gounon was a flamboyant fifth in the Kremer Lola, after the team lost time when Sam Hancock spun and inflicted damage in the morning. The Lola pair ended up two seconds plus off the pole time. Gounon replaces Faulkner, who drops into SR2.

Baldi and Caffi lacked traction in sixth, the #2 BMS 333 was seventh.

Martin O'Connell took the SR2 pole for Rowan Racing (below), ahead of Damien Faulkner / Thed Bjork in the Lola. Faulkner was originally listed in the Kremer Lola in SR1, but has now replaced Larry Oberto in Stanley Dickens' car. Arnie Black drives with Marc Rostan in the Bruneau entry.

No, Faulkner is in addition to Oberto.

Interesting track, isn't it? Note the 'Irish' armco, to the drivers' left, in the shot of Lammers and Nielsen, above.
