New Rules For 2002

The advantages of the current BTCC rules - close racing, cost-effective etc. - have been noticed by the manufacturers on the FIA Technical Working Group, which has adopted very similar rules for next year, to replace the current 'interim' ETCC.

The major difference is that the new ETCC is likely to adopt four-door shells only, not the coupes that are allowed in the UK, while brakes and gearboxes are likely to be 'free' (but to a defined spec.), rather than the specified components in the BTCC.

Final stage in the procedure will be passing of the new rules by the FIA World Council on June 25. The time scale will allow development of the cars in good time for next season.
