Rob Dyson’s Thetford / Norcold team have re-signed Butch Leitzinger to drive full time for the team in 2001. Butch returns ‘home’ after a difficult season with Cadillac - during which he still had plenty of time to win at Lime Rock, Trois-Rivieres, and Watkins Glen.
“Butch has been a major factor in our success over the last several seasons and we are glad he’ll be back with us next year,” explained Rob Dyson. “He and James (Weaver) do a superb job together and they get along really well. The team is really enthused to have Butch back and we’re looking forward to good things next year.
The team recently completed a two-day test at Virginia International Raceway. James Weaver spent the first day evaluating aerodynamic modifications and testing shock absorbers. Both Butch Leitzinger and Andy Wallace continued testing on the second day, while Ryan Hampton and Larry Oberto, the reigning Grand-Am SportsRacer Lights Champions, completed fifteen laps each and “the guys did exactly what Pat Smith and I asked them to do, and they have a lot of potential,” said Rob Dyson. “We’re always scouting new talent, and I’m happy we were able to give Ryan and Larry a run in our car.”
The team’s next race outing will be the Rolex 24, where the tried and tested R&S Mklll design will again be the ideal tool there (one new chassis). Confirmation hasn’t yet been received of the team’s intention to run the new 2001 R&S ‘C’ model later in the year, but there are indications that two are on order. |
